The Resort

A premier resort on the South Coast of Mombasa and the only golf resort of the Kenyan coast, Leisure Lodge Beach & Golf Resort is a sprawling 5-star property nestling amdidst lush tropical vegetation on the Indian Ocean between a sandy beach and a championship golf course.

Accommodation at the resort is distributed between three different wings, namely the Bahari and Palm Wings, and the Bustani Club, each one with its own swimming pool, bars and restaurants. The grounds are expansive and units are nicely spread out amongst the lush tropical gardens. Truthful to its name, Leisure Lodge Beach & Golf Resort boasts a large sandy beach protected by a coral reef and offering good opportunities for water sports with world-class snorkelling and diving. Deep sea fishing, Dolphin and Game Safaris can be organised as well to discover Kenya's rich wild life.

Considered as one of the the top 3 courses in Kenya and host to the Diani Beach Masters, Leisure Golf Club boasts a challenging championship course that runs through lush tropical vegetation. Fostered by Dr. William Meister, the construction of the course began in the late 1980's under the supervision of course designer Thomas Fjastad. The primary obstacle in the building of the golf course was the huge amount of coral covering the site, and a 100-acre farm had to be purchased in the hinterland with the sole purpose of supplying topsoil for the course. The result is a enjoyable inland links cooled by the ocean breeze, which also plays an important factor in the game.

Kenya South Coast

Kenya South Coast

Although Kenya has over forty golf course, only three of them are located on the coast: Leisure Golf Club, Mombasa Golf Club, a vintage nine holler built in 1911, and Nyali Golf & Country Club, an 18-hole golf course north of Mombasa.

• Nyali Golf & Country Club (1956-80) Monty Lowry

One of the two 18-hole golf courses on the coast, Nyali extends over 160 acres of land 10 km. north of Mombasa. Nyali is a gently rolling course with a decent mixture of right and left doglegs and shallow fairway bushes. Players will see an abundance of wildlife including velvet monkeys, the club's mascot,  and beautiful flowering trees, such as flamboyant trees. While the course is not directly on the ocean, the winds definitely influence on playing conditions, providing an exciting challenge for both low and high handicap players.

• Mombasa Golf Club (1911) Nine holes

One of Kenya's oldest course, this nine holler is surrounded by a beautiful coral reef with powdery white sandy beaches. Mombasa’s 9-hole course is located in downtown Kizingo, surrounded by a beautiful coral reef and white sandy beach, with great views across to the Mombasa harbour entrance and beyond into the Indian Ocean. The oldest continuously sponsored Kenyan golf tournament is played at Mombasa Golf Club and the Cannon Trophy has been played for annually here since 1968.

Diani Beach

Located 32km South of Mombasa, Diani has become one of Kenya’s top beach destinations. Renowned for its variety of activities and brilliant white beaches, Diani is a gateway to monumental archaeological treasures, colonial cities and unexpected natural wonders. Snorkelling and scuba diving reveal wonderful coral formations teeming with marine life, deep-sea fishing and glass-bottom boat rides offer ways to enjoy the clear ocean waters above the surface. Loca atractions include Diani Cahle Marine National Reserve, Shimba Hills Natural Park and  Mwalunaje Elephant Sanctuary.

Mombasa

A trading post dating back to the 12th century, Mombasa has changed hands dozens of times between the Arabs, Portuguese, Omanis and finally the British. It is Kenya's second largest city and the largest port on the East African coastline. The Kenyan coast is lined with a mixture of beautiful white sandy beaches and tourist resorts, interspersed with Arab and Portuguese forts, ruins of Swahili outposts and old trading posts that are the remnants of its rich history.

The city has a population of around one million and is located on Mombasa Island, which is separated from the mainland by two creeks: Tudor Creek and Kilindini Harbour. The island is connected to the mainland to the north by the Nyali Bridge, to the south by the Likoni Ferry and to the west by the Makupa Causeway, alongside which runs the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The port serves both Kenya and countries of the interior, linking them to the Ocean. Mombasa is a major trade centre and home to Kenya's only large seaport, the Kilindini Harbour.

Mombasa is the centre of coastal tourism in Kenya. Mombasa Island itself is not a main attraction, although many people visit the Old Town and Fort Jesus. The Nyali, Kenyatta, Bamburi, and Shanzu beaches are located north of the city. The Shelly, Tiwi, and Diani beaches are located south of Mombasa. Mombasa's northern shoreline is renowned for its vibrant 24-hour entertainment offers, including both family entertainment, sports, culinary offers and night life.
