Port Harcourt Golf Club

Port Harcourt Golf Club

In the neighbouring Rivers State, Port Harcourt is the nearest international airport to Le Meridien Ibom and gateway to the resort. A good opportunity to stay a couple of nights in town at sister property Le Meridien Ogeyi Place and play a round at Port Harcourt Golf Club

• Port Harcourt Golf Club

Nigeria's oldest course • Built 1928 (13 holes) + Extended  1989 (18 holes)

18 holes - 6,000 yds - Par 70

Port Harcourt Golf Club is a section of Port Harcourt Club, founded in 1928. The course has been in existence since the early 1930’s and was originally a 13 hole course, but by 1989 the course was extended to a full 18 holes with a length of just over 6000 yards and a course par of 70. Due to the conversion to an eighteen hole layout the course is quite challenging. This is because it tends to be quite tight and requires accuracy off the tee box, additionally the course is also quite heavily wooded and out of bounds comes into play on a number of holes.

One feature that might be unusual to a first time visitor is that the putting surface are called ‘browns’, this is due to the fact that greens are built of oiled sand and require a ‘sweeper’ to remove foot prints, putting lines etc. There is now a Greens Committee in place who is actively planning to convert the browns to regulation greens.

Eastern Nigeria

Eastern Nigeria

Located in West Africa and bordered by Benin, Niger and Cameroon, Nigeria extends from the shores of the Gulf of Guinea and Niger Delta - the world's largest river delta, to the northern dry savannah of the Sahel. With over 140 million inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. Petrol plays a large role in the country economy, accounting for 40% of the GDP, and Nigeria is the 12th largest producer in the world, member of the OPEC.

Akwa Ibom State

A major oil-producing area, Akwa Ibom, which translates into "The Great God of Heaven", is one of Nigeria's 36 states. Extending from the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic to the mountain ranges of the north, this small state, formerly part of the Cross River State, offers a range of attractive landscapes, from the coastal mangrove swamps to the central flat lands, thick tropical forests, rolling hills and the rugged valleys of the interiors.

Cross River National Park

The Cross River National Park is located in Cross River State. The park has a total area of about 4,000 km2, most of which consists of primary moist tropical rainforests in the North and Central parts, with mangrove swamps on the coastal zones. The park has been given the motto "The Pride Of Nigeria". The Kanyang tourist village, about one hour's drive from Calabar, will give visitors a base from which to view the park, with a lodge, restaurant and wildlife museum. Activities include game viewing, bird watching, gorilla tracking, mountaineering or hiking, sport fishing, boat cruising and the Botanical garden and Herbarium in Butatong.[16]

Port Harcourt

Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers state and port town in SE Nigeria, lies along the Bonny River - an eastern distributary of the Niger, 41 miles (66 km) upstream from the Gulf of Guinea. Founded in 1912 and named after Lewis Harcourt - the colonial secretary. Port Harcourt has long been an important merchant port and is today the centre of Nigeria’s oil industry.
