The Resort

Situated on one of the most beautiful beaches of the French isle of La Reunion, LUX* Beach Resort, the island only 5 star hotel formerly known as Le Grand Hotel du Lagon, enjoys a prime location on the island's only lagoon. Extending over twenty acres of lush, scented tropical gardens, this beach resort offers atmospheric accommodation distributed in traditional Creole style and a blend of French culinary tradition and spicy Creole cuisine. Leisure facilities include a fitness centre, a huge swimming poo, and direct access to a white sandy beach with a range of water activities.

For golfers, LUX* Beach Resort runs a shuttle service to Bassin Bleu Country Club, where guests will enjoy preferential greenfees. Perched 400 meters on the mountain slopes, overlooking the Indian Ocean, Bassin Bleu enjoys perfect climatic conditions to play golf, with moderate temperatures and protection from the Trade Winds. There are two other courses on the island, the eighteen hole Golf Club de Bourbon and the nine holler Golf du Colorado, a public facility.

Next to Mauritius, La Reunion is a tiny bit of France with a tropical twist in the midst of the Indian Ocean. The island is a dramatic piece of land shaped by volcanoes, with stretches of black sand beaches, wood covered peaks and rushing waterfalls. The scenic landscape of La Reunion and its incredibly diverse and friendly population, much alike the neighbouring sister island of Mauritius, makes this overseas "departement" of France an idyllic tropical destination. An integral part of the French Republic, La Reunion enjoys the same status as any other French region and is the outermost post of the European Union.

Reunion Island

Reunion Island

La Réunion is a French island with a population of about 800,000 inhabitants in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, about 200 kilometres (120 miles) south west of Mauritius. 39 miles (63 km.) long by 28 miles (45 km.) wide and its hightst points, The Piton des Neiges, rises up to 3,070 metres (10,070 ft). Administratively, La Réunion is one of the overseas departments of France. An integral part of the French Republic, La Reunion enjoys the same status as any other French region and is the outermost post of the European Union, part of the Eurozone.

La Réunion was known to the Arabs and was visited by the Portuguese in the early 16th cent. The island was uninhabited until settled by the French cerca 1642 and its present mixed population is descended from the French settlers and their East African, Indian and Indochinese slaves, who were brought in as labour force after 1848, when slavery was abolished. At first a penal colony, Réunion became a post of the French East India Company in 1665. In the 18th C. the island was an exporter of coffee, but after 1815, when coffee no longer could be produced competitively, sugarcane became the main crop. In 1947 the status of Réunion was changed from a colony to a French overseas department.

The island is a tiny bit of France with a tropical twist in the midst of the Indian Ocean.
