Golf in Florence

Golf in Florence

UNA Poggio Dei Medici Golf & Resort is part of the “Golfing in Florence” programme, a co-operation between Florence's three clubs, Ugolino, Le Pavoniere and Poggio dei Medici, all differing in tradition, location and technical features but united in this great project mixing golf and tourism. All are within 30 kilometres from the historical centre of Florence.

• Firenze Ugolino Golf Club

Peter Gannon & Cecil Blandford (1933) 18 holes - 6,210 yds - Par 72

Founded in 1933, the Circolo Golf Ugolino is one of the oldest and most established clubs in Italy and enjoys a beautiful location at the outskirts of Florence, on the first slopes of the Chianti hills. Stretching through the gorgeous Tuscany countryside, amidst tall cypresses, ancient olive trees and majestic pines., this beautiful course was designed by British architects Cecil Blandford and Peter Gannon and subsequently altered by Piero Mancinelli. Ugolino was the venue of the Italian Open in 1983.

• Le Pavoniere Golf & Country Club

Arnold Palmer (1986) 18 holes - 7,073 yds - Par 72

This parkland course extends on the ancient estate of Parco Cascine di Tavola en Prato, on the western outskirts of Florence. Designed by Arnold Palmer, Le Pavoniere offers an appealing contrast between a modern, American style layout and its timeless Tuscan setting. The course stretches through lush olive groves, oak woods, majestic maritime pine trees and stately rows of tall cypress and poplars in the Arno valley, rich in small streams and ditches which have been put to good use to create various water obstacles.

Florence & Tuscany

Florence & Tuscany

Poggio dei Medici lies in the heart of a land rich in splendid scenery and art treasures - the Mugello. Over the centuries, many civilisations have left their imprint and artistic heritage in the area, from Etruscan to Romans as well as the splendid Renaissance villas of the Florentine aristocracy. The resort is also near the Mugello International Race Track, privately owned by Ferrari and venue of the Italian Motorbike Grand Prix.

A short drive away lies Florence, Ialy's first capital and today Tuscany's capital. There is no need to present the city, the city of the lily, gave birth to the Renaissance and changed the way we see the world. For centuries it has captured the imaginations of travelers, who have come seeking rooms with views and phenomenal art. Florence's is a subtle beauty—its staid, unprepossessing palaces built in local stone are not showy. They take on a certain magnificence when day breaks and when the sun sets; their muted colors glow in this light. A walk along the Arno offers views that don't quit and haven't much changed in 700 years; navigating Piazza della Signoria, almost always packed with tourists and locals alike, requires patience. There's a reason why everyone seems to be here, however. It's the heart of the city, and home to the Uffizi—arguably the world's finest repository of Renaissance art.
