• Championship Links
Cabell B. Robinson (1997) 18 holes - 7,072 yds - Par 72 - SSS 71,7 - Slope 122
When faced with the terrain where to build the golf course at Praia d’El Rey, Cabell B. Robinson said: “This is the kind of landscape we architects try to create, but at at Praia d’El Rey, it’s all here, naturally. Now it’s my responsibility to protect it.” For many years Robert Trent Jones’ righ-hand man, Robinson has established himself as an imaginative designer and his layout at Praia d’El Rey is an exciting course for players at all levels.
The course is a true links and unfolds through an area of stunning visual beauty, amidst wild dunes, pine groves and over the cliffs bordering a miles long sandy beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Holes thirteen, fourteen and fifteen run right alongside the Atlantic, enjoying panoramic views of the ocean and the Berlanga Isles natural preserve in the distance.
Cabell B. Robinson has designed the course to be a complete challenge, with deep bunkers, undulating greens and natural sand border areas. Because of the endless variations of the terrain formed by dunes, countless mounds and hollows, and cliff tops locations, it is impossible to play the same round twice, not to mention the ever changing wind.

Costa da Prata Golf
There are some excellent courses on the Silver Coast (Cosata da Prata) designed by reputed American archtects. Two are worth a special mention for being next to Praia d'El Rey: Bom Sucesso and Royal Obidos, due to open in 2012 and designed by the late Seve Ballesteros.
• Bom Sucesso Golf
Donald Steel (2007) Seaside - 18 holes - 6,811 yds - Par 72
Bom Sucesso is located on the banks of the Obidos lagoon, just north of Praia d'El Rey near the beach. The 18-hole Championship golf course designed by the world-renowned architect Donald Steel has been inauguratedvery recently. The first 9 holes are played on a level part of the terrain while the second nine are located on uneven terrain, and are therefore quite spectacular. With a great site, the Bom Sucesso golf course takes full advantage of a series of spectacular views, ranging from breathtaking to attractive.
• Royal Obidos Golf & Spa Resort
Severiano Balleteros (2012) Parkland - 18 holes - 7,000 yds Par 72
Due to open in 2012 and designed by the late Severiano Ballesteros, who recently passed away. The Royal Obidos Golf Course is located is located on the banks of the Obidos lagoon, just north of Praia d'El Rey. The project offers spectacular views to the Ocean and the Obidos lagoon. Promoted by Oceanico Developments, Severiano Ballesteros has designed an extraordinary golf course. Several holes have lakes and streams, which in addition to being important hazards, it ads spectacularity and beauty.
• Campo Real Golf Resort
Donald Steel (2005) Openland/Woodland - 18 holes - 6.573 yds - Par 72
Designed by Donald Steel, CampoReal Resort is located in the heart of Portugal enchantingly rural "Oeste" (west) region. The name translates literally as "the Royal Meadow" and was inspired by the first Kings of Portugal who used the area as their personal hunting ground. The out of bounds parts of the course have been maintained as wild and natural areas, and much of the existing vegetation has been retained for this purpose. In this way the flora and fauna of the site will be encouraged and allowed to flourish. As a result of the significant change of level of the site, there are many exciting shots to play at Campo Real.
• Golden Eagle Golf Resort
William Rocky Roquemore (1994) Parkland - 18 holes - 6,586 yds - Par 72
Located on 540 hectares of spectacular Portuguese countryside, Golden Eagle Golf Course is often referred to as one of the most outstanding golf courses near Lisbon. This 18 hole course meanders through the estate occupying 90 ha with many holes bordered by mature umbrella pine trees and cork oaks. Long and wide fairways will assist in getting golfers to within striking distance of greens, although water features and strategically placed bunkers will make birdies and par’s difficult to achieve. The Portugal Ladies Open 2009 was hosted at Golden Eagle with great success and many other professional tournaments are expected to be played there over the coming years.
Costa da Prata
Eighty kilometres north of Lisbon, Peniche is one of Portugal's busiest fishing harbour. An island until the 12th Century, it is now connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway bordered by wide sandy beaches. Its "Fortaleza" was one of the country's most notorious jails, now an impressive monument against fascism. The town has been a magnet for surfers for at least a decade, due to the large variety of spots working in different conditions and all within a fifteen kilometres radius. North swells can be breathtaking on the northern beaches while in South swells or northern winds, the southern beaches offer powerful waves, such as the famous "Supertubos" perfect tube. Northwards of Peniche, the crowd thins out substantially.
Costa da Prata
The region of Peniche and Costa da Prata (Silver Coast) is famous for its miles long pristine beaches and the Berlanga Islands, a tiny rocky archipelago listed as a natural reserve and a favourite destination for divers - in season, daily ferries take visitors from Peniche to the main island. Also well worth a visit is the nearby walled town of Obidos. This perfectly preserved mediaeval town is a maze of narrow cobbled streets and small squares lined by churches and lovely whitewashed houses with flower bedecked windows. The town was a leading merchant harbour until the 16th century, when river access to the sea was silted up. Obidos lost importance and its development was halted, the town remaining pretty much the same ever since. Today, the tranquil waters of the Obidos (Arelho) lagoon has become a favourite spot for windsurfers and its river mouth a reputed surf spot
