• Championship course
Robert Trent Jones Junior (1993) 18 holes - 7,015 yds - Par 72
PGA European Tour Russian Open
Moscow Country Club boasts a magnificent 18-hole championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and seamlessly integrated into a deep silver birch and evergreen forest. In recognition of its quality and uniqueness, the Club is a member of the Great Golf Resorts of the World and it is ranked amongst European Top 100 Courses by British golf magazine Golf World. The very first Russian Open was also held at the club in 1993 on the front nine - the course only featured nine holes at that time. Moscow CC has since been a regular stop of the European PGA Challenge Tour with the highest prize fund on the Tour.
The golf course is the resort's central feature, seamlessly integrated into a deep silver birch and evergreen forest, stretching between lakes and beautiful mature trees. The fairways run between tall stands of trees, several lakes and streams, and are dotted with numerous bunkers. The design of the course offers a classic strategy, where the hazards are placed to create risks and rewards and to challenge the most experienced player. The course is backed by full training facilities, including an indoor computerized golf simulator open year round.
Golf In Moscow
• Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club
Dave & Paul Thomas (2008) 18 holes - Parkland/Woodland
Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is located a mere 20 miles north of Moscow in an historic area of Russia. Yachting takes place on the nearby Pestovskoye reservoir, which is one of the largest man-made lakes along the Moscow Canal system. Golf, on the other hand, is played on part of Prince Serebryany’s 16th century patrimonial estate. The impressive manor houses of Nikolskoye-Prozorovskoye and Marfino are located close by.
The English father and son team of Dave and Paul Thomas designed Pestovo as a Russian championship course that will compete with Moscow Country Club in terms of quality and challenge. The architects have certainly achieved their objectives, as Pestovo gets ready to host the Russian Seniors Open in July 2008.
The course can be stretched out beyond 7,000 yards from the tips but numerous tees will make the course playable for all levels of golfer. The course is routed in a snake-like figure of eight and the holes and topography vary between forest and open country.
• Moscow City Golf Club
Sven Tumba Johansson (1987) 9 holes - Parkland
The first golf course in Moscow, this layout was constructed back in 1987 for the Moscow City Golf Club under the direction of its founder, famous former Swedish ice hockey player, Sven Tumba Johansson.
Moscow is the capital of Russia. Having played a central role in the development of the Russian state and its history. An 860 year-old city, Moscow has many reminders of its imperial and Soviet past, as the capital of the former Soviet Union. It is a sprawling city with numerous museums, Soviet-era monoliths and post-Soviet kitsch.
Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia. In the course of its history the city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Soviet Union. Moscow is the site of the Moscow Kremlin, an ancient fortress that is today the residence of the Russian President and of the executive branch of the Government of Russia. The Kremlin is also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city.
The city is served by an extensive transit network, which includes four international airports, nine railroad terminals, and one of the deepest underground tubes in the world, the Moscow Metro, second only to Tokyo in terms of ridership and recognised as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich and varied architecture of its 185 stations.
Moscow is a city of superlatives. It boasts the most billionaires and the most colossal building in the world. It is also the most expensive and, according to one poll, the most unfriendly city in the world. Is it any wonder that a popular nightclub is called simply The Most?
Moscow may occupy the number one spot, but these lists hardly capture the reality of the capital. Free (relatively) from the strictures of censorship and hardship, Russia’s capital city is experiencing a burst of creative energy, evident in all aspects of contemporary culture. Former factories and deserted warehouses have been converted into edgy art galleries and intriguing underground clubs. World-class venues such as the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts are experimenting and expanding. Tchaikovsky and Chekhov are well represented at Moscow theatres but you can also see world premieres by up-and-coming composers, choreographers and playwrights. Foodies flock to wine bars, coffee bars, sushi bars and even beer bars, while night owls enjoy a dynamic scene of exclusive nightclubs, bohemian art cafés, underground blues bars and drink-up dives.
The ancient city has always been a haven for history buffs. The red-brick towers of the Kremlin occupy the founding site of Moscow; churches and monuments remember fallen heroes and victorious battles; and remains of the Soviet state are scattered all around the city. Even history is being examined in innovative ways, as new museums broach subjects long brushed under the carpet.
