The Resort

Halfway between the capital Ibiza and the seaside resort of Santa Eulalia, on the scenic, twisting road to Cala Llonga, Ibiza Golf club lies in a shallow valley covered with lush olive, almond and pine groves. Although close to the island capital and the beaches, the golf course enjoys a quiet and secluded location amidst Ibiza's timeless countryside. The place is at its best in February, when the almond trees are in full bloom, and in Spring when the fields are covered by a myriad of multicolour flowers. Ibiza Golf Club was formed by the merger of the former Roca Llisa Golf Club nine holler, built in the 1970's, and Ibiza Golf Club's eighteen hole course, laid out in 1992, to form a full 27 hole complex and the only golf facility on the island.

Plenty of accommodation is available on the island and as it does not exceed thirty miles, any of these properties is conveniently close to the golf course and a short, scenic drive away. Although several hotels are closed outside the season, from November to Easter when the conditions for golf are ideal, there is a good range of prime properties open year round. These are distributed between the capital Ibiza and the lush countryside, ranging from sophisticated urban retreats to charming countryside hideaway.

Amongst these is the Ocean Drive, a design boutique hotel enjoying one of the best location in Ibiza on the exclusive Marina Botafoch, across the harbour from the old town. The hotel is complemented by Can Jaume, a charming country house retreat on the outskirts of town but open only in season.

Ibiza Golf Club

Ibiza Golf Club was formed by the merging of the former Roca Llisa Golf Club, a nine holler built in the 1970's to serve Roca Llisa luxury urbanisation, and Ibiza Golf Club's eighteen hole course, laid out in 1992. Although both courses share the same bucolic environment, the championship course unfurled through a lush valley while the nine holler enjoys a hillside location with some views over the cliffy coast and the Mediterranean. Although private, the club is opened to visitors - advanced booking is strongly advised during the peak months of July and August.

• Championship Course

Dave Thomas & Pepin Rivero (1992)

18 holes • 6.079 m./6,650 yds • Par 72 • SSS 73,4 • Slope 134

The course is nestled in a broad and shallow valley by the Mediterranean, deep enough to shut out the noise and winds and trap the unruffled serenity of the Ibiza lush countryside. Wild flowers, olive and pine groves invade the layout while the surrounding hills form a magic backdrop to the course. These idyllic surroundings form the natural setting of this beautiful layout, relatively flat, with wide fairways and very fast greens. But do not get carried away to much by a contemplative approach induce by the enchanting background as the course request concentration to sort out its dog legs and numerous hazards and score well.

• Roca Llisa Course

Fernando Cavestany & Frederic William Hawtree (1972)

9 holes - 2.968 m./3,297 yds - Par 36 - SSS 70,7 - Slope 115

This layout runs through the scenic Ibiza countryside and offer some spectacular views over the rocky cliffs and blue water of the Mediterranean and across to the neighbour island of Formentera. As good things come in small package, be prepared to enjoy this nine hole layout for its technical appeal as well as its natural surroundings. The fairways are dotted with numerous pine and palm trees. Rocks, terraced greens, a couple of lakes and strategically placed sand bunkers will request the use of all woods and irons to handle a multitude of different shots.

Mallorca & Valencia Golf

Mallorca & Valencia Golf

With only one golf course, Ibiza might not be a prime golf destination by itself, but it does offer an excellent golf facility which can be enjoyed year round in the gentle Mediterranean climate. and that can perfectly be combined with the neighbouring island of Mallorca or Valencia on the mainland, port of call for visitors coming by boat - both Mallorca and Valencia are a two hour fast ferry crossing from Ibiza. Mallorca boasts over 20 championship courses and the region of Valencia is reputed for El Saler vintage links, one of the few true Mediterranean links, and R.T.Jones El Bosque courses.

Part of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza and its smaller sister island of Formentera are known as the "Islas Pitiusas" (from the Greek word "pitys" meaning pine tree) because of the abundance of pines that cover their landscapes. One of the most original and attractive islands in the World,  Ibiza has become the meeting point of the swinging jet set and artists from all over the world, yet without ever loosing its charm as a peaceful hideaway and bohemian retreat. The island was made famous at the end of the sixties by the hippy movement which endowed the island with the status of a counter culture paradise. Although Ibiza is now more famed for its clubbing life and famous discos such as Pacha, Space, Amnesia or Privilege, the island has remained a quiet and peaceful place, free of the mass tourism which has affected so many other Mediterranean destinations.

The island has also retained its "bohemian" charm and Carthaginian influence, with its exotic white washed cubic houses reminiscent of North Africa disseminated amongst the wooded slopes of its hilly countryside. Perched atop a rocky promontory dominating the harbour, Ibiza walled town (Dalt Vila) is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an outstanding example of Renaissance military architecture incorporating in its urban fabrics imprints of earliest Phoenician, Arab and Catalan settlements. The evolution of Ibiza's shoreline is one of the best examples in the Mediterranean of the influence of the Posidonia endemic seagrass on the coastal and marine ecosystem. The narrow strait separating the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, including its salt marshes and posidonia seabed, is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its exceptional biological value.

Known as "The Last Paradise of the Mediterranean” Ibiza's sister island, Formentera is a tiny and secluded island eleven miles long, with Caribbean like beaches and only accessible by boat through a 30 min. crossing. Formentera’s Illetas beach is constantly ranked as one of Europe Top 10 beaches.
