Cancun & Riviera Maya Golf

The Riviera Maya has turned into a new golfing Eldorado, with twelve courses in total designed by the best names in the game such as Jack Nicklaus, Robert von Hagge, Robert Trent Jones, Greg Norman and P.B. Dye.

• Playa Mujeres Golf Club

Greg Norman (2006) 18 holes - 7.260 yds - Par 72 - SSS 74.5 - Slope 139

This Greg Norman signature course offers nature friendly championship golf with carefully crafted water hazards, bunkers and greens, making the most of the site's natural profile and vegetation. Set within 930 acres of of tropical environment at Playa Mujeres Resort, just seven miles north of Cancun, the golf course extends between the Caribbean Sea and the Chachmochuc Lagoon, several holes affording spectacular views of the sea.

• Mayakoba El Camelon Golf Club

Greg Norman (2005) 18 holes - 7,067 yds - Par 72 - 73.8 - 137

As its name suggests, El Camaleón is an ever changing layout which bends through three well differentiated landscapes: Dense tropical forest, mangroves and sandy oceanfront stretches cut by massive limestone canals. Norman has even incorporated a cenote, an ancient underground cavern and river system, into the center of the opening fairway. Created with the goal of offering a tournament-quality golf course while maintaining an enjoyable sense of playability for the average player, this course was designed to enhance the natural features of its tropical forest and seaside settings. El Camaleon is home to the Only PGA Tour Event in Mexico and managed by the AAA 5-Diamond Fairmont Mayakoba Resort.

Yucatan Peninsula

Yucatan Peninsula

The Yucatan Peninsula is quite different from the rest of Mexico, with a distinct change in the landscape, people and architecture. The atmosphere is more relaxed and the legacy of the ancient Maya people is patent in the many ruins scattered through the encroaching jungle. Yucatan’s coast is a region famed for its white sandy beaches, magnificent offshore coral reefs and diving opportunities on the Caribbean coast, as well as for the region's extraordinary Mayan temples and ceremonial centres of this ancient kingdom.

The peninsula is an area of great diversity, from tropical jungle and rainforest, flat and hot countryside dotted with Mayan villages, a superb coastline with popular resorts and islands, numerous archaeological sites, and colonial towns. Once distant and inaccessible, tourism has made determined advances especially along the most visited stretch of the coast incorporating the mega-resort of Cancun, the islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, and the more tranquil and less developped Riviera Maya.

The Yucatan Peninsula is the hottest and most tropical part of the country. The rainy season runs from May to October but it is characterised by short, late afternoon tropical showers, yet hurricanes may affect the peninsula from June to October.
