The Resort

Lying in the Caribbean Sea just off the coast of Venezuela, the freeport island of Isla Margarita is a favourite destination with Venezuelans. About half the size of Maui, Margarita is the major island forming the archipelago and state of Nueva Esparta, which also comprises the lesser islands of Coche and Cubagua. Margarita is actually comprised of two islands, dominated by peaks of over 2,000 feet and only joined by the fifteen miles long isthmus of La Restinga, a narrow beach enclosing a vast lagoon of mangroves incorporated into a National Park and the island's major touristic attraction.

On the Northwest cost of the island, the five star Hesperia Hotel enjoys a prime location overlooking a large sandy beach and the only golf course on the island. This luxury hotel run by the reputed Spanish hotel group Hesperia is formed by three accommodation wings and a central area with the facilities. Guestrooms are fully air conditioned, well appointed and enjoy views of the sea and the golf course. Resort amenities include several bars and restaurants, a spa and fitness centre, swimming pools, tennis courts and all kind of beach activities.

Also known as "Isla Bonita", Isla Margarita enjoys a tropical and mainly dry climate year round, ideal for the practice of golf. These conditions have also required the installation of a new irrigation system to keep greens and fairways in good conditions year round. Designed by Spanish architects Lopez Oliveira & Jose Canales, Isla Margarita Golf Club is a public facility opened to all. Caracas will most probably be your gateway to the island. Venezuela's capital, the city is well worth a visit and a round of golf at one of its two famous courses: Lagunita Country Club, venue of World Amateur Championship, and Caracas Country Club, a vintage layout built back in 1918.

Caracas Country Club boasts a vintage course built back in 1918, showcased by an exclusive  parkland urbanisation designed by the Olmsted Brothers Landscape firm, of New York’s Central Park fame. The club is located on the fringe of the city, at the foot of the Avila Mountain range national park, providing a scenic backdrop to the course. Avila's summit culminates at over 7,000 feet and can be reach by cablecar from Caracas, offering spectacular views over the city on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other.

Isla Margarita

Isla Margarita

Also known as "Isla Bonita", Isla Margarita is part of the Neuva Esparta state comprising three islands off the north coast of Venezuela. Dotted with palm fringed sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and backed by high mountains, the island is a favourite destination with Venezuelan and international tourists. Founded by the Spaniards in 1536 and the island's main town, Porlamar is a freeport and duty-free centre, while the capital of La Asunción boasts remarquable Spanish colonial architecture dating back to the 16th century.

• La Restinga National Park

The Restinga Lagoon is Margarita’s prime tourist attraction. Covering an area of 45,000 acres, the lagoon connect the two separate peninsulas forming Margarita island. There is a small harbour at the bridge connecting the two peninsulas where hired boats take people along miles of crisscrossing natural channels that cut trough thick mangroves. The southern part connects to the sea, while the northern part is delimitated by the 15 miles long Restinga beach

Caracas

Venezuela’s capital, Caracas lies only 10 miles from the Caribbean sea but high above in a valley 2.500 ft. (900 m.) at the foot of the Avila Mountain range national park, providing a green and scenic backdrop to the city. This steep mountain range separating Caracas from the Caribbean culminates at over 7,000 ft. (2.200 m.) and can be reach by cablecar from the city, offering spectacular views over the metropolis on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other side.

Founded in 1567 by the Spanish, Caracas was also the birthplace of two of Latin America's most important figures of the War of Independence: Francisco de Miranda and Simón Bolívar  "El Libertador", who finally gained independence for Venezuela in 1821, although he failed in his attempt at creating the greater nation of Gran Colombia, which included including Colombia, Equator, Peru and Bolivia.

Today, Caracas is a sprawling, modern and thriving city of 6 million inhabitants, which has a lot to offer, from museums to shopping, dining and night life. Complementing these attractions is an agreeable tropical climate, tempered by the altitude and often described as “eternal summer”, and a natural exuberance attitude that pleasantly contrasts with the tight urban fabric. Founded in 1721, the university’s new campus is considered a masterpiece of urban planning and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
