• Championship Course
Greg Norman (1997) 18 holes - 6,805 yds - Par 72
Designed by Australian legend Greg Norman, the award winning championship course at Bali Nirwana Golf Club has been rated as Asia's Best several years in a row. The course is both stunning and challenging, its fairways weaving through rice terraces, coconut groves and lush tropical vegetation. The course also incorporates into the layout the original rice terracing - still harvesting, and eleven Balinese Hindu temples - Bali is the only non-Muslim island of Indonesian - the 12th has dramatic views across the sea to the island temple of Tanah Lot.
Nirwana Bali Golf Club is a visual masterpiece of dramatic ocean views, lush Balinese landscapes, and one of the most photographed and challenging golf courses in the world.. The golf course offers a spectacular challenge and a unique world-class experience for golfers of all skill levels.
With three holes running along the cliffs of the Indian ocean and terraced rice paddies providing unique hazards the course will test the accuracy and consistency of a PGA Professional and still be enjoyable for the average golfer. Golf in Bali
• Bali Golf & Country Club (Nusa Dua)
Rodney Wright & Robin Nelson - 18 holes - 6,888 yds - Par 72
The course at Bali Golf & Country Club is unique in that golfers enjoy two distinctly different nine holes. On the front nine you drive off into rain forest clad hills, moving onward to spectacular vistas out over the Indian Ocean to Nusa Penida and the volcanic mountains of East Bali, where Gunung Agung reigns supreme. The back nine sees golfers doing battle with giant coconut groves to stay on the carpet of verdant green fairways and greens, finishing off with the Indian Ocean practically lapping at your golf shoes.
• New Kuta Golf Resort
Venue of the 2010 Indonesian Open
Ronald Fream (2007) 18 holes - 7,500 yds - Par 72
Superb new championship course overlooking both the Indian Ocean and the scenic sands of Balangan Beach. The New Kuta course is also the first ‘links style’ golf course in the country. Links courses are located in coastal areas, on sandy soil, often among dunes, with few water hazards and few, if any, trees. This reflects both the nature of the Scottish scenery where the sport was born and the fact that only limited resources were available to golf course architects at the time.
• Handara Kosaido Country Club
(Bedugul - 3,700 ft./1.142 m. in the central mountain range)
Peter Thomson & Michael Wolveridge - 18 holes - 7,024 yds - Par 72
Located over 1.000 metres above sea level in the cool mountainous area of Pancasari Village, Singaraja, the course about a one and a half hour scenic drive from the Kuta/Sanur areas.
Although Bali is relatively small (90 miles long and 48 miles wide), it is densely populated and culturally and economically one of the most important islands of Indonesia. Bali has more than 3 million people, a great variety of countryside and probably more than 10,000 temples.
Known as the "Island of the Gods", Bali is an exotic paradise with its picturesque vision of green rice fields and plantations, soaring volcanoes, cool lakes and rushing rivers, lush fsorests and palm fringed beaches inhabited by smiling and welcoming people.
What makes it distinctive is the prevalence of Hinduism, unlike the rest of Indonesia which is predominentaly Muslim. Scattered around the island are thousands of Hindu temples and places of worship. There is a strong Indian falvour about the whole island, showing in the ceremonies, daily rituals and people's attitudes, with its offerings of flowers and food that adorn the roadsides, and the numerous festivals taking place throughout the year. Art is also an integral part of daily life and every village has its artists and art, together with tourism, is an important source of revenue for the island.
