• Cap Cana Resort

Punta Espada Course | Jack Nicklaus Signature Design (2007)

This bold, dramatic and testing Jack Nicklaus design makes full use of Cap Cana's rocky Atlantic shoreline, as well as incorporating two blue lagoons and a line of spectacular coral-laden bluffs - the ocean's former boundary. If the oceanside holes steal top honours for their spectacularity and carries over the ocean shots, the undulating and dramatically crafted "inland" holes, all with ocean views, do not trail too far behind.

Visitors are welcome on weekdays and weekends. When Cap Cana's Las Iguanas course opens, Punta Espada is scheduled to revert to being a private course, only playable by members and resort guests staying at certain accommodations on the Cap Cana property.

• Roco Ki Resort

Legacy Course | Nick Faldo  (2008)

Opened for play in 2008, the spectacular Faldo Legacy layout is the first of Roco Ki Golf Club’s four intended 18-hole courses. The course starts and finishes on a cliff-top headland that juts out into the Caribbean Sea. In between, fairways sway through lush tropical mangrove forests, past four small lakes, climb to higher ground inland before returning to the shoreline to end with a dramatic climax. Named “Los Dos Rezos” (the Two Prayers), the eighteen plays over two gaping inlets to slivers of fairway perched on cliffs above the Sea.

Domincian Republic

Domincian Republic

There are two sides to the Dominican Republic, just like there are two sides of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which the Dominican Republic shares with its French speaking neighbour Haiti. On one side, tourists languish in luxury inside the confines of the many resort hotels along the beautiful coastline, sipping cocktails under the palm trees and bathing in the aquamarine waters of the Caribean. The other face of the Dominican Republic can be found along the country roads, among the sugar cane, coffee and cocoa bean fields, where people labour in the sun and men play dominoes outside tumble-down shacks.

The Dominican Republic occupies two third of the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola, part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. Both in term of area and population, the Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation, after Cuba, with 48,442 square kilometres (18,704 sq mi) and an estimated 10 million inhabitants.

Christopher Columbus landed on the island in 1492, and it became the site of the first permanent European settlement in the Americas, namely Santo Domingo. The capital, Santo Domingo, was the first Spanish settlement in the Americas. Christopher Columbus initiated the first European New World settlement here in 1496. His legacy is preserved in the historic old section of Santo Domingo, the Ciudad Colonial area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Just one square mile but full of historic buildings, its cobbled streets once saw Christopher Columbus, Fernando Cortez and Francis Drake. The main street, Calle Das Lamas, is the oldest street in the New World, and the House of Cord, the oldest European building in the Americas.

Punta Cana is the centre of the east coast region of the Dominican Republic, and a growing holiday destination with serveral major resorts. The 40-mile (64 km) stretch of largely unspoilt coast where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic offers white sandy beach shadowed by thousands of towering coconut trees. Attractions in Punta Cana include the Manati Parkwith its performing dolphins and sea lions and an replica of an ancient Taino Indian village.
